Charlotte Jane (Rebrovich) Smith, age 76, of Babbitt, MN passed away on July 9, 2016. A Memorial Service will be held at the Junction Inn in Babbitt, MN on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at 1:00 pm.
Char was born July 13, 1939 in Aurora, MN the daughter of Steve and Josephine (Mehle) Rebrovich. She attended Ely High School in Ely, MN. She married Richard L. Christensen in 1956. Together they had three children, Renee, Rich (Ted) and Joan (deceased) and lived in Babbitt, MN. Char later moved to California and started a career in hospitality, holding several management positions in the hotel, restaurant and bar industry. In 1973 Char married Orland Narum and became the stepmother to Mark, Mickey, Jeff, and Jackie and then to two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Together they owned and operated several restaurant bars. In 1994 Char married Darrell Smith and added two more stepdaughters, Timie and Stacy, and eventually two more grandchildren. Char and Darrell together owned a pool table refurbishing company. They moved to Minnesota and settled into retirement on Eagle’s Nest Lake in Ely, MN enjoying the outdoors, family, and friends. Char donated her time and vivacious personality to several organizations: The Babbitt Lions Club, Fireflies, Peter Mitchell Days, Embarrass Fair, Red Hat Society, and Babbitt Women’s Club. Char enjoyed home decorating, cooking, entertaining, community involvement, and spending time with her friends, children and grandchildren. She had a passion for fun, believed in the value of laughter, and lived a full and adventurous life on her own terms.
Char was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Smith; parents, Steve and Josephine Rebrovich; brother, Randy Rebrovich; daughter, Joan Leslie Christensen; grandson, Eric Lindsey Christensen; and previous husbands, Richard L. Christensen and Orland Narum.
Char is survived by children, Renee Christensen, Rich (Julie) Christensen; stepchildren, Mark (Mookie) Narum, Mickey (Dusty) Morris, Jeff Narum, Jackie Gulliher, Timie Seals, Stacy (Chad) Spear; grandchildren, Leah, Stacy, and Kayla Christensen, John Narum, Ryan and Jay Morris, Madison and Megan Spear; great-granddaughter, Makenna Morris; brother, Stevie Rebrovich; nieces, Connie Mager and Shelly Buckholz; and nephew, Bruce Kochevar.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Donations will be given in Charlotte’s name to The Babbitt Lions Club and the DAV (Disabled American Veterans of Minnesota).
Arrangements are with Kerntz Funeral Home in Ely, MN.
