Edward Fernlund

Edward Richard "Dick" Fernlund died peacefully on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Ely Bloomenson Community Hospital. Edward was born Feb. 12, 1930 near Cook, MN to Frank and Cordelia (Ecklund) Fernlund. He married Carol Sokoloski on May 25, 1957 in Virginia, MN. 
Edward graduated from Cook, MN High School, was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps in 1951 and honorably discharged in 1953. 
He is a 15-year paid-up for life member of the Waite Park Post 428 American Legion. He retired from the U.S. Forest Service as an engineer in 1985 after 27 years. Edward "Dick" was a man of few words but known for his dry humor that kept you laughing. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting agates and watching football and westerns.
Edward is survived by his daughter Corry Frentz (Roy Bester); sons Ed Fernlund (Robin Amolins) and Tom (Veronica) Fernlund; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Carol, parents, brothers Franklin and John, sisters Alice, Rosemary and Lois. 
A small family gathering will by held at the Buyck Cemetery on Sept. 30, 2017. Family arrangements have been entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.
