Eunice Helene Ayres, Ely, died on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the age of 96. Eunice was born on July 7, 1919 to Euclid and Lillian Lamarsh in East Orange, New Jersey. She was graduated from William Hall High School in West Hartford, Connecticut, attended Colby Jr. College in New London, New Hampshire, and was a legal secretary for a number of years. On February 10, 1945 Eunice was married to C. Stanford Ayres, Jr. and one daughter was born. The family moved to Simsbury, Connecticut where they were charter members of Covenant Presbyterian Church. After her husband’s death in 1973, Eunice moved to Florida where she eventually resided at the Village Retirement complex. In 2009 Eunice moved to Iowa and resided with her daughter Heather and son-in-law Rev. Marshall Monthei; when the couple retired to Ely in 2012, she accompanied them, moving into the Boundary Waters Care Center.
Eunice leaves her daughter Heather Monthei (Marshall), three grandchildren, Kristen Monthei (Nathan Heazlett) of Baltimore, MD; Matthew Monthei of Silver Spring, MD; Bethany Meneses and her fiancé Jason Ballard and his two daughters of Bettendorf, IA, three great-grandsons, Stellan Heazlett, Zion Meneses, and Xavier Meneses, and one niece Michele Lamarsh (Matthew Kunath) of Jacksonville, FL and their three children.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at the Ely United Methodist Church with a gathering of family and friends being held one hour earlier to the service at the church. A family celebration of life and burial to be held in West Hartford, Connecticut at a later date. Memorials may be sent to Ely United Methodist Church, Boundary Waters Care Center, or Young Life of Ely.
Family arrangements have been entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.
