Gertrude Rose (Herold) Jensen passed away on December 2, 2016, with her family by her side. A funeral mass will be held on July 18, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Babbitt, MN, with visitation beginning one hour prior. Burial at the Argo Cemetery in Babbitt will follow.
Gertie was born on August 20, 1926, to Albert and Mary (Thielen) Herold at the family farm in Elkton, South Dakota. She married Melvin Jensen on February 27, 1954, in Elkton where they farmed until they moved to Babbitt, MN, in 1957, and then to Madison, WI, in 1975, and returned to Babbitt in 1990.
Gert enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, gardening, baking, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, playing cards, cheering on the Minnesota Twins and was always ready to take a drive to the casino. Her faith was very important to her and she hardly ever missed a mass on Sunday. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to her four children and helped to raise her grandchildren.She is survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Chuck (Barb) Jensen of Babbitt, Patty (Doug) Lynch of Madison, Sandy (Ken) Keller of Oregon, WI, Cheri (Dave) Conner of Madison, WI, Jessica (Wayne), Sloane, Marlee, and Mya Mattadeen of Buford, GA, Bryan (Karmen), Kylie and Keira Lynch of DeForest, WI; Leslie (Ken), Kayleigh, Aubrie, and Sydney Swanson of Oregon, WI; Phillip Keller of Kaneoha, HI, Sarah Keller of Madison, WI; Dan (Casey), Calvin and Carson Conner of Madison, WI, Mike (Jenny), Braden and Austin Conner of Verona, WI; Katrina and Tori Jensen, of Duluth, MN; Jonathan (Christina), Nevaeh and Logan Evridge, of Babbitt, MN; Jason, Avery and Rylan Buschman, of Babbitt, MN.
She is also survived by her siblings Florence Powers, Daly City, CA; Agnes Sistrunk, Virginia Beach, VA, Melvin Herold, Brookings, SD, and James Herold, Brownsville, MN and many other relatives and friends by whom she will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, her parents, brother Edwin Herold, and three sisters Mildred Schnoor, Velma Leigh, and Marjorie Heaston.
