Janet Carolyn Takavitz Grahek, 89, left this earth to join her beloved husband, John, on October 2. She leaves behind her daughter, Darlene Grugal, her son Jon Grahek (Eileen) and her grandchildren Ashley and Andy Grahek. She was preceded in death by her husband and son-in-law, Rich Grugal.
Janet was born in Ely on October 18, 1927. She graduated from Ely High School and was married at St. Anthony's Catholic Church on August 10, 1946. The last of the Takavitz siblings, she was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Our mother taught us kindness and generosity and was a powerful example of what it means to be a strong, loving woman.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Edward Ciriacy, Dr. Joseph Schwinghamer, and Jeanann Tjader, CNP and the staff of the Boundary Waters Care Center for their kindness and compassionate care of our mother.
Visitation will take place on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 10:00-11:00 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Ely, Minnesota. Visitation will be followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 P.M. at the church. Inurnment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the activity fund at the Boundary Waters Care Center at 200 West Conan St., Ely, Minnesota.
