John Frederick Lindroos Sr. of Ely, 98, died July 24, 2016 at Carefree Living Ely, one month shy of his 99th birthday.
John was born August 25, 1917 in Winton, MN to John and Ida (Brander) Lindroos. He married Lila (Servio) Lindroos on May 24, 1941.
He served as a machinist in the U.S. Army from October, 1942 to December , 1945. He worked at the Zenith Mine in Ely and as a machinist at Reserve Mining in Babbitt. After retirement John and Lila spent many winters in Green Valley, AZ.
Survivors include John F. (Dolly) Lindroos Jr. of Ely, Glenn J. (Carol) Lindroos of Northfield, MN; seven grandchildren : Kim (Larry) Schuh, Connie (Jeff) Wilkeyson, Nicole Lindroos (Chris Pramas), Jennifer (Chris) Wood, Chad (Megan) Lindroos, John F. (Tina) Lindroos IV, Josh Lindroos (Cristin Van Driel). Five great grandchildren: Heather Schuh, Trevor Schuh, Kate Lindroos-Frein, Eliana Wilkeyson and Brie Wood. Also survived by three step grandchildren and spouses and six step great grandchildren, three step great great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by parents John and Ida Lindroos; his wife Lila; daughter JoAnn Hyvonen and grandson Richard Hyvonen.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorials are preferred in John’s name to the Ely Area Veterans Memorial, C/O Ely City Hall, 209 E Chapman St. Ely, MN 55731.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.
