Miles J Gardiepy

Miles J. Gardiepy, 88, of Ely, passed away on July 16, 2016 at Essentia Health- St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth. Miles was born on February 24, 1928 in Hibbing to Chester and Mary (Buchert) Gardiepy. He attended and graduated from Hibbing High School in 1946. Miles was a proud veteran and served from 1950 – 1956 in the U.S.Army where he obtained the rank of Sergeant. On September 25, 1954 he married Marcella Grahek and together they raised 3 children. Miles was the bread man working for Zinsmaster Baking Company before he went to work in sales for Pacific Gamble Robinson where he worked until his retirement.  Miles was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, the American Legion and Teamster’s Local 346. Miles and Marcella lived their summers in Ely and in the winter lived in Lake Havasa City, Arizona.
Miles is survived by his wife of 61 years Marcella and their children: Maryellen (Dr. Elliot Sherr) Gardiepy of Naples Florida, Thomas (Sheila Puzel) Gardiepy of Naples Florida and Judy Rupp of Phoenix Arizona, (2) grandchildren Amanda and Ashley Rupp also of Phoenix, (1) brother Jack( Mary Kay) Gardiepy of Shoreview, (2) sisters: Jean (Clayton) Rue of Hibbing and Marjorie (William) Burmaster of Plymouth and several nieces and nephews.
Miles was preceded in death by his parents Chester and Mary Gardiepy.
  A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Ely with a visitation being held one hour prior to the service at the church. Military honors will be by the Ely Honor Guard with burial taking place at Fort Snelling at a later date. Family arrangements have been entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.
