Olga Marie Levar, 95, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2017. She was a long-term resident of Boundary Waters Care Center in Ely where she enjoyed her caregivers’ friendship and her many games of Bingo.
She was born at on September 5, 1922 in Ely, to John and Jennie Zgonc, and was a lifelong resident of Ely.
Olga attended Ely Memorial High School and married her husband, Matt Levar on September 15,1941. Olga was a life-long member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
She loved to cook and bake her favorite Slovenian dishes and who could resist her apple and walnut potica. Her deep-fried donuts were always a treat for her friends and family especially when they had just come out of the deep fryer. She loved to crochet and knit and made countless afghans, stocking caps and baby sweaters.
She is survived by her son, Matt Levar (Theresa) of Jordan, MN and her son-in law, Eric Mayranen of Ely; four grandsons, John (Jennifer)Levar of Jordan, MN, Ryan (Amanda) Levar of West Fargo, ND, Bob Mayranen, Keith Mayranen and granddaughter Janelle (Eric) Hart all of Ely, MN; eight great-grandchildren, Parker and Jaylee Levar, Braxton, Austyn and Caylee Levar, Sabrah and Gunner Hart, and Cooper Mayranen. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Matt, daughter, Charlotte Mayranen; brothers, John Zgonc and Frank Kromar; and sisters, Jennie Zupec and Mary Povhe. Olga will be sadly missed by family and friends but we will always have great memories of her life.
A gathering of friends and family will be held at 1 p.m. on December 16 with a visitation at 12:30 p.m. at Kerntz Funeral Home.
