Rose (Miklaucic) Perushek

Rose Perushek, former long-time resident of Ely passed away on August 24, 2016 in Bellingham, Washington at the age of 95. She was born January 24, 1921 in Ely, Minnesota to Frank and Angela Miklaucic.
She was married November 8, 1939 to Frank (Slabs) Perushek. Slabs died in 1978. In 1991 she moved to Langley on Whidbey Island and to Bellingham to be near her daughter, Phyllis.
Rose was an avid gardener, fantastic cook and baker, especially of Slovenian cuisine, and her kitchen was always humming with the sounds and the aromas of dishes and bakery that she would be making for her family and friends. The coffee pot was always on for anyone who dropped by to visit. She crocheted many afghans for her children and grandchildren and contributed her crocheted articles to the Senior Citizens Workshop in Langley. She truly loved her dog, Sonny, who was her constant companion from 1997-2008 after she adopted him from the WAIF shelter on Whidbey Island. As a parent she was always there for her children but was never afraid to let go and allow them to follow their own paths.
Rose is survived by her sister Emma Ronkainen; her children: Phillip (Ardis) of Kronenwetter, Wisconsin, Phyllis Schmidt of Bellingham, Washington and Peggy (Jeff) Davis of Brentwood, California; six grandchildren: Joanna (Steve) Cordell, Julianna (Steve) Spada, Joseph and Michael Perushek, Kim (Jason) Wieloch, Penny (Cory) Diamond and four great-grandchildren: Katherine Perushek, Rachel Wieloch, Tina and Jin Diamond.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank (Slabs) and siblings Edward, Frank, John and Angela (Mobilia) Miklaucic.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Ely with visitation being held one hour prior to the service at the church. Family arrangements have been entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.
