Shirley Markovich

Barbara Shirley Markovich, 70, passed away February 9th, 2017 surrounded by family at Boundary Waters Care Center. 
Shirley was born December 14, 1946 to John and Julia Puzel. She married Jim Markovich in February of 1964 and had two daughters. She spent her entire life in Ely and enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling and antique cars, but later in life she and Jim enjoyed spending time together at their hunting shack until Jim passed away in 2010 and Shirley’s health declined.
She is survived by daughters Michelle (Dan) Carlson of Bemidji and Patricia Velcheff of Ely; mother Julia Puzel of Ely; brothers John Puzel of Florida and Jim Puzel of Ely; grandchildren, Billy Taylor of Bemidji, Dylan Haas of Ely and Lacey Velcheff of Ely; great-grandson Logan Haas of Florida; nieces and nephew, JJ (Rhonda) Puzel of Ely, Becky (Nathan) Moyer of St. Michael and Hailey (Ryan) Ring of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband James J. Markovich, her father, John A. Puzel, mother in law and father in law Jospeh S. and Florence V. Markovich.
As per Shirley’s wishes, there will be no funeral and a private family gathering in the spring to say goodbye. 
Family arrangements have been entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.
