Viola W (Cagwin) Newton

Viola W. Newton, 91, formerly of Babbitt, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2016 at the Boundary Waters Care Center in Ely. Vi was born on January 5, 1925 in Bagley, Minnesota to Tracy and Florence (Ricke) Cagwin. Vi met Tellfred Newton and was married in 1942 and they raised 10 children. Vi was a stay at home Mom for many years but later in life she worked at Timber Bay Resort.
She’s survived by her children: Dean Newton of Ely, Nancy Newton Bodin of Ely, Alan Newton of Babbitt, Henry and Diana Newton of Durand Michigan, Bob and Cheryl Newton of Embarrass and Lee (Jeannette) Newton of Babbitt, (26) grandchildren, (16) great-grandchildren, (11) great-great grandchildren and honorary daughter: Carole Bausch Carlson and grandson: Marko Carlson.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Tellfred, (1) daughter: Gloria, (3) sons: Michael, Bernie and Orrin, a special friend Oliver (Twist) Carlson and a niece: Mavis Rosett.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at Kerntz Funeral Home in Ely with visitation being held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Family arrangements have been entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.
