Lorraine Margaret (Snell) Jaeger passed away on July 3, 2018, surrounded by family. She was born on August 15, 1930 to James and Clara Snell of Marcell, MN. She was the fifth of nine children. Lorraine was a graduate of Deer River High School in the spring of 1949.
She moved to the Twin Cities campus of the University of Minnesota where she worked as a waitress at the Stadium Cafe. She met Frank, a devoted customer, by serving him a piece of pie and striking up a conversation. This was the start of a life-long relationship that lasted over 61 years. They moved to Colorado Springs for a brief time as Frank served his time in the Army. Afterwards, they moved to Babbitt, MN in 1959 where they raised their family and became active volunteers in their community.
She was active in the Lions Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Babbitt Business Women, birthday club, card club, dance club, women’s league golf and bowling. She was also a volunteer for Hospice, Peter Mitchell Days, Fun Run, American Cancer Society, Relay for Life and several other community events. She and Frank enjoyed attending as many activities as they could where their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participated.
She enjoyed traveling which included trips to the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Hawaii, Florida, Nevada and a lifelong dream to travel to Trysil, Norway to learn of her heritage. She also enjoyed her available free time with close friends and family, picking up sticks around the cabin and keeping everyone in suspense as where she was off to next.
