Alyce Moravitz, 93, of Ely, Minnesota passed away peacefully with family by her side on June 12, 2025 at Carefree Living in Ely.
Alyce was born in Embarrass, Minnesota on May 26, 1932 to Theodore and Hilda Beckman, Finnish immigrants who sought a better life in America in the early years of the 20th century. One of eight children, Alyce was the youngest, graduating from Embarrass High School in 1950.
She married Robert Louis Moravitz on August 26, 1950 and settled in Ely, where she and Bob raised three children. They enjoyed dancing, spending time with family and friends, and staying at their cabin on Bear Island Lake. Alyce cherished her Finnish heritage and was grateful to have made two trips to Finland to visit her relatives there.
Alyce was preceded in death by her husband Robert L. Moravitz, son Anthony L. Moravitz, her parents, and her seven siblings: Bertha Opoien, Paul Beckman, Gertrude Saari, Lillian Salo, Ellen Hughes, Mathew Beckman, and Dorothy Puent.
Alyce is survived by her children: Randy Moravitz and Carolyn (Brad) Sherrill; grandchildren: Pat (Erin) Moravitz, Sam (Claire) Moravitz, Paul (Leora Norkin) Sherrill, and Mark (Sarah Taylor) Sherrill; great-grandchildren: Ella Perish, Leland Moravitz, Ira Norkin, and Lyra Sherrill; Pat and Sam’s mother, Kari Hope; Tony’s partner Eric Lindberg, and her many cherished nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date at the Waasa Cemetery in Embarrass.
