Clifford Hoheisel Obituary

Clifford (Cliff) Leo Hoheisel, 85, passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at his home in Babbitt, surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.

Cliff was born in Pierz, MN on December 9, 1933 to Leonard and Regina (Bahns) Hoheisel. Cliff attended school in Pierz, MN. In 1952, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Following his four year military service, he returned to Pierz to help his parents on the family farm. On June 22, 1959, he married the love of his life Joan Bauer in Buckman, MN. They made their home in Babbitt in 1965. Cliff was employed at Reserve Mining Company. In partnership, he owned a small business as Babbitt’s local Ski-Doo® dealership; fixing and selling snowmobiles. After Reserve Mining closed, Cliff went to Buckman, MN where he was employed at various jobs. He returned to Babbitt where he was employed at Cypress Mining until his official retirement in 1999.

Cliff was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and he belonged to the local Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the American Steelworkers Union, VFW and the American Legion of Babbitt.

Cliff enjoyed caring for God’s creation through planting and gardening. He was an avid outdoors-man who loved to fish and hunt throughout his life, especially with his sons. He truly enjoyed the many hours of “tinkering” in his well-organized garage. He liked playing cards in general but, by far, enjoyed a good game of cribbage. Some of his favorite memories were the times when they would travel to central Minnesota to visit family and friends.

Cliff is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Joan; four children, Mary (Brian Preusser) of St. Cloud, Paul (special friend Cathy Bissonette) of Babbitt, Patricia (Brad Butkowski) of St. Michael, Robert (Lynn Kegler) of Zimmerman; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Cliff is survived by his sisters Adeline (William) Gunther and Mary (Raymond) Lucking, both of Pierz, MN; Shirley (Roger) Postrick of Blaine, MN and Jean (Gerald) Billmeyer of Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Regina; his brother Rodrick and sister Yvonne Pick.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 15 Ash Boulevard, Babbitt with Father Bill Skarich officiating. Visitation will start at 10 a.m. followed by 11 a.m. funeral Mass. Luncheon to follow at the church. Interment at Argo Cemetery. Funeral arrangements by Kerntz Funeral Home, Ely, MN.
