Dale James Marleau, age 84, of Ely, passed away February 25, 2025 at his home on Garden Lake.
He was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Chester and Ruby (Mayes)Marleau.
Dale married Marlene Laflamme on November 11, 1961 and lived in Toledo until 1968 when they moved to Ely. He worked for Lampert Lumber, Ely Bloomenson Community Hospital, Reserve Mining and Inland Steel. Dale and Marlene owned and operated Marleau Ice for 17 years.
He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, where he and his wife worked with the youth of the parish for 15 years. Dale was also the president of the Hoop Club and Baseball Association and was active in the Knights of Columbus. Dale really enjoyed his retirement hunting, fishing, trap shooting and golfing.
Dale is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Marlene, children: Renee Sand of Avon, MN, Dale (Gail) Marleau of Deer River, MN, Kelly (Daren) Berglund of Becker, MN, Kirk (Karen)Marleau of Duluth, MN, Joel (Kristy) Marleau of Ham Lake, MN; and brother Mark Eric (Judy) Marleau of Stacy, MN. Dale was the proud grandparent of 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, February 28, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. A visitation will be one hour before. Burial will be at the Ely Cemetery following the service. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely
