Daniel Seliga Obituary

Daniel L. Seliga “Sleges”, age 70, passed away peacefully in the early morning of October 17, 2025.  Dan was born January 4, 1955 to Steve Jr. and Louise Seliga in Ely, MN where he resided until his passing.  He met Delby Fish in 1975, and they married just two years later on September 24, 1977.

While he worked early in life, as a mechanic, an accident changed his course to being a stay-at-home father to their three children.  He spent time with his wife and children camping, going out on the pontoon, snowmobiling, hunting, going to the drag races, and random trips, sometimes by plane after obtaining his pilot’s license.  He enjoyed spending free time in his garage working on anything with a motor, as everything could be bigger and faster.  He could always figure out how to modify anyone’s snowmobile, unless it was a Ski-Doo, because they were just doomed from the start. He loved Mopar and Polaris, anything else was junk in his world.  There was a tool for any project he had going on in that garage, and if you ever moved one, you had better put it back in its place.  Later in life he enjoyed road trips on his custom Road Star, then Boss Hoss, tropical vacations, and visits from his grandkids.

Those who knew Dan knew that he loved to have a good time, making others laugh with his quick wit, including exaggerated stories always with a quick pause to tell his wife to stop rolling her eyes.  Some of Dan’s words of wisdom included “Never pay attention to the man behind the curtain,” and “Boozing ain’t easy, if it was, everybody would be doing it.”

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Patsy Kastama and May (Gary) McGuire, brother-in-law Al Borman, sister-in-law Janet Fish, and lifelong buddy Bob Niskala.  He is survived by his loving wife Delby of 48 years, children Rochelle (Sam) Hyppa, Krista Hoefer, and Daniel (Jacci) Seliga, grandchildren Kyja (DJ Thom), Drake Hyppa, and Storm Seliga, sisters June Borman, Louise O’Konek, brother Steve Seliga, and close friends Carlin Ryan, Mark Novosel, George Ewinski, Dave Marttila, Gerry and Gary Niskala.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 15th from 1 to 4PM at the Krazy Wabbit.
