E. Virginia Smith

E. VIRGINIA Smith, 89, of Babbitt, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2019 at the Boundary Waters Care Center in Ely. 
She was born in Bagley, MN on March 19, 1930. Virginia loved school as a child and loved reading, crossword puzzles and crocheting. 
Virginia started working at age 13 and finally retired at age 74. She married Henry L. Smith on June 26, 1948.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry, son Lane Allen, grandson Matthew; parents Hilda and Elmer Torkkola; daughter-in-laws Merry and Donna, son-in-laws Mike and Dave; five brothers and one sister. 
Virginia is survived by daughter Leanne L. Smith of Babbitt, MN, sons Walter (Pam) Smith of Benson, AZ, Lewis (Pat) Smith of Duluth, MN, Robert (Julie) Smith of Babbitt, MN, Jon (LuAnn) Smith of Babbitt, MN; one sister Delores Murphy of Grand Rapids, MN; a special daughter-in-law Wendy Beaulieu; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren along with numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. 
Thanks to the employees of Boundary Waters Care Center, Carefree Assisted Living and Ely Bloomenson Hospital.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to East Range Hospice. 
A private family burial will be held in Waasa Cemetery. 
Family arrangements have been entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.
