Edward (Cookie) W. Smuk, 96, of Ely passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 8 at home with his family by his side. He was born May 5, 1928, in Ely to Frank and Julia (Horvat) Smuk.
Edward was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and St. Anthony's Catholic Church. He attended Ely schools and served in the Army. He worked as a miner, truck driver and part owner of the Ely Speed Wash. He especially loved time spent with his boys and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Faye of 72 years, sons Dan (Mel), Randy, Tom (Deb), and Steven (Kathy); three grandsons, two granddaughters, and one great-grandson, along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Vicki Grahek, Olga and Julia Smuk, and five brothers, Stanley, Frank, William, Abbie and Frank III.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, May 25th, at noon, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Family arrangements have been entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.
