Irene Ritsche Obituary

Irene Ritsche, age 93, passed away on December 14, 2024.  Irene was born on August 25, 1931, to Hilding and Hazel (Lindell) Dahlquist. She had fond memories of her younger years growing up in Port Wing, Wisconsin.  She graduated from Central High School and married Eugene (Gene) Ritsche at Cathedral of Christ the King in Superior, Wisconsin.  The couple settled in Babbitt in 1956 and proudly called it home.  They were members of St. Pius X Catholic Church where Irene served with the Ladies Circle.  Irene maintained her home and raised “her girls” with dedication.  The early passing of her husband at age 52 saw her rising to the challenge of the entire home maintenance with the loving help of neighbors.  She continued to make new friendships and enjoyed going out to eat and shopping trips.  Irene was known for her baking skills and many family favorites.  Crafts and sewing were an enjoyment - from quilting, clothing, and a hobby of making teddy bears - often donated to charity.  In past years she enjoyed her toy poodles and spoiling them.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, sister Elaine, and beloved daughter Linda.  She is survived by her daughters  - Jan (Bill) Gutekunst and Sharon (Erick) Gresly, grandchildren Joe (Stephanee) Sullivan, Robin (Ryan) Egan, Erik (Caitlin) Gutekunst, Sara (fiance Scott) Gutekunst, Kirstin (Aaron) Magnuson, Ryan Nephew, many adored great-grandchildren, and a loving niece Barbara (Ron) Bunnell. A graveside service was held on December 17th at the Argo Cemetery.  A family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.
