Julie Puzel passed away on Sunday November 7, 2021 at CareFree Living in Ely, MN. She was born on May 1, 1921 in the country of Slovenia to Franc and Julia Zaman. Julie united in marriage with her husband John Puzel on December 26, 1945 during World War II in Germany. She later travelled to the United States entering through Ellis Island, NY and traveling by train to Ely, MN where they shared 51 years of marriage prior to John’s passing. 

Julie was a class act and knew the true meaning of living life to the fullest. Her fiery spirit was her driving force in life; making history in being the third woman in Ely to obtain her drivers license. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic church, volunteered countless hours through the Women’s Church Circle and the Ely Senior Citizen Center, enjoyed being a part of the Red Hatters of Ely, and spent decades of service fulfilling numerous roles at Vertin’s Café. Julie will be remembered by family, friends, and the community for her delicious potica, picking gallons of blueberries, love for polka dancing and music, having coffee with the Sunset Road ladies, her desire to travel whether near or far as she was always up for an adventure, and for her open-door policy at their home on White Iron Lake where numerous visits were had with friends and family. 

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John, daughter Shirley and son-in-law Jim Markovich, parents Franc and Julia, and numerous siblings all of Slovenia. 

Julie is survived by son John D. Puzel (Sue Brinatte), and son James Puzel. Grandchildren Michelle (Dan) Carlson, Patricia Velcheff, JJ Puzel (Ronda), Becky Moyer (Nathan), Hailey Ring (Ryan) as well as 9 great grandchildren. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Ely with visitation being held one hour prior to the service at the church. Family arrangements have been entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.
