John McManus

John T. (Jack) McManus was born on May 1, 1940 in Worcester, Mass., the son of Donald and Kathryn Burke McManus. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1962 with a BS in Finance. After a two-year stint in the Army, he moved to Fort Wayne, Ind., where he worked for the GE Motor Business, retiring in 1991. He died on May 18, 2023, with Karen, his wife of 44 years, by his side.

Jack and Karen fell in love with Ely on a canoe trip in 1980 and returned many times before moving to Ely in 2001. Jack enjoyed canoeing, hiking, movies, and sitting on his deck overlooking White Iron Lake.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Carol McManus and Donna Conjar, and grandson Brian McManus. He is survived by his wife, brother Mark (Ann-Marie) McManus, daughter Carol (Mark) Herndon, sons Michael (Mary), Bill, and Patrick (Elizabeth) McManus, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
