Linda Fryer, 72 of Ely, passed away on Thursday, January13, 2022 at Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.
Long time Ely resident and retired Chamber of Commerce Administrative Director Linda Fryer’s impact on her family and community didn’t come to an end with her death. Linda passed away in Duluth, Minnesota on January 13, 2022 at the age of 72 while surrounded by family and friends who had come from all over the country to be by her side and honor her legacy.
Linda was born on February 28, 1949 to Gordon and Dorothy (Wooten) Fryer in Augusta, GA. After receiving her bachelor’s degree from Indiana State and master’s degree from Indiana University, she taught physical education in Indiana before visiting, falling in love with, and eventually moving to Ely.
As an avid outdoorsman, Linda spent her free time fishing, hunting, cross country skiing, snow shoeing and snowmobiling. In 1988 Linda took a position as Administrative Director of the Ely Chamber of Commerce and made it her professional goal to tell the world of her personal love for Ely. Upon announcing her retirement in 2013, it was written in the Ely Echo that, “there are people you can’t replace and there is not another Linda Fryer.” That statement is even more true as her family, friends, and the community she so dearly loved, grieve for her death and celebrate her life.
Linda is survived by her partner Judy Hall, her two sisters Gloria (Lowell) Busenitz and Suzanne Fryer, her nephews Raymond (Karis), Anthony (Jennifer), and Christopher (Teressa), one niece Kaitlyn(Andy) Govert as well as six great nieces and nephews Lincoln, Keira, Jude, Reagan, Dominic and Luke, with another grand nephew on the way. Linda is predeceased by her parents and her youngest sister Phyllis.
In accordance with Linda’s wishes there will not be a funeral, however her family and friends ask that you honor her memory and life by remembering her and the passion with which she lived life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Northwoods Partners, or the charity of your choice. There will be a celebration of life at a later date. Family arrangements have been entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.
