Leon E. Kegler

Leon E. Kegler, age 94, of Babbitt passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023 at St. Cloud Community Living Center.
He was born on November 12, 1929, in Winsted, MN the son of Albert A. & Anna M. (Zimmerman) Kegler.
Leon honorably served his Country in the United States Army from 1951 -1953. He was a Korean War Veteran.
Leon was a member of The American Legion Post #535 in Babbitt.
On June 9, 1956, Leon E. Kegler and Marilyn M. (Laxen) were joined in holy marriage at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. God blessed their marriage with a son and a daughter.
Leon was employed as a welder at Reserve Mining Company and retired after 40 years and was a member of the American Steelworkers Union.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling, playing cards, ballroom and square dancing, and was an avid fan of Minnesota Twins baseball. He was a lifelong member of St. Pius Catholic Church serving as a Eucharistic Minister and an usher. He was a local member of the Lions Club, American Legion and Knights of Columbus.
Leon is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Marilyn, two children, Kurt (Stephanie Flug) Kegler of Kenai, Alaska and Lynn (Robert) Hoheisel of Zimmerman, MN. His five grandchildren Carrie Kegler, Steven (Jennifer Joy) Kegler of Alaska. Rachel (Jake) Montague, of Coon Rapids, MN, Michael Hoheisel of Monticello, MN and Ashley Hoheisel of Owatonna, MN.
Great-grandchildren: Caden and Ava Kegler of Alaska, Lillian Montague of Minnesota, A Brother: Steven Kegler of Winsted, MN, and other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law Joseph and Clara Laxen, a sister Eileen Wright, brothers Harold Kegler, Ray Kegler and Robert Kegler.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Leon E. Kegler will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. visitation one hour before at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Babbitt. Father Charlie Friebohle will be the Celebrant. Military Honors will follow immediately after mass. Interment will follow at Argo Cemetery.
