Louis F. Skubic Jr.

Louis Frank Skubic Jr., 95, passed away April 4, 2023 following a brief illness.  He was born in Ely, MN to Louis Sr. and Ann (Erzar) Skubic on January 17, 1928.  He was the youngest of three children.  He married Elizabeth (Betty) Brula, of Soudan, MN on July 2, 1955.  Together, they raised five children.

Louis was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and a proud veteran of the Korean War.  He served in the US Army 1950-1952.  A skilled welder, he retired from Reserve Mining Company to enjoy a life filled with travel, hunting, snowmobiling and “tinkering.”

Louis is survived by one son, Jerome Skubic of Ely, MN; two daughters, Mary (Robert) Salmonson of Blackduck, MN and Carol (Jerry) Wheeler of Bremerton, WA; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth (Betty); sons John (Lori) Skubic of Poulsbo, WA and Michael Skubic of South Lake Tahoe, CA; and sisters Anne (Frank) Tekavec of Ely, MN, and Rose (George) Crepas of Wheeling, IL.

A service will be held Saturday, May 20, at 11:00 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Ely, MN.  In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Ely Youth End of the Road Archers, or charity of choice.
