Lynne Marie (Marsyla) Sherman completed her battle with cancer on July 12, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
She entered into the world on October 24, 1955 in Duluth, MN to Rose {Ferkul) and Allan Marsyla. She began her life of mischief and shenanigans with her sister Nancy and numerous cousins in the Gilbert area. When she was a young girl her family and friends spent a month every year camping on Pickerel Lake in Canada, where they shared good times and outstanding fishing.
Lynne was a lifetime member of the Gilbert VFW Post 4456 Ladies Auxiliary. During her time she was influential with the nationalization of the POW/MIA.
She began her first career, teaching music at Babbitt-Embarrass Schools. Lynne brought laughter and music to countless students who often remembered her unorthodox lessons and dancing on the chairs to ABC Rock. Lynne believed that there was no student who was unteachable, you just had to make learning enjoyable.
Lynne counted her husband David and daughter Amanda the greatest loves of her life.
She loved to hunt and fish, her biggest walleye was 9 ½ pounds. Her father-in-law gave Lynne his 40+ year old model 99 30:30 Savage which she used to get her 1st buck. She spent winters as part of the Babbitt Drug bowling team and had many shenanigans with her friends at the state bowling tournaments.
After teaching for many years between Babbitt-Embarrass and Tower-Soudan Schools, Lynne opened up her own ceramics studio and worked at the local State Farm Insurance Office. She believed that her call to teach never ended, it just took other forms.
Faith played a large role in Lynne's life. Lynne was the Cantor and Choir Director for St. Pius X Catholic Church in Babbitt for over 50 years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 17 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Babbitt at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home.
Lynne was preceded in death by her parents Allan and Rose (Ferkul) Marsyla and survived by her husband David of Babbitt, MN, daughter and son-in-law Amanda and Alexander Castro of Marshall, MN and her sister and brother-in-law Nancy (Marsyla) and Donald Doll of Bovey, MN.
Lynne wants everyone to remember her as she was the last time they saw her, and hopes that brings a smile to their face.
