Marion Kangas

Marion Kangas (Skala), age 86, passed away peacefully May 19, 2024, in the Boundary Waters Care Center in Ely. She was born in Ely, MN in 1938 to John and Angela (Kovall) Skala.

She married Richard Kangas and had three children, John, Linda, and Barbara.

Marion enjoyed being a homemaker and volunteered at the Ely Senior Center. She was a loving mother and enjoyed watching her children grow. She always had a great sense of humor and in her leisure, loved shopping and watching old westerns on TV. When she was a resident at BWCC, she enjoyed the activities and the wonderful staff that took care of her. She became good friends and enjoyed her time with her roommate Marie. Marion always had a special place in her heart for her special needs son “John” whom she always cared for and talked about.

Marion is survived by her son John, daughters Linda(John) DeBeltz, and Barbara (Gary) Torgerson and one grandchild Braden Torgerson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, brothers Martin “Jim” and Jack, sisters-in-law, Rose and Vicki and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are Friday, May 24, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Ely. A visitation will be one hour before. Burial will be in the Ely cemetery following.
