Richard "Dick" Hill

Richard (Dick) Hill, 81, of Ely passed away on February 9, 2026 at his home with his family by his side.

Dick was born May 12, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan. He grew up in Moose Lake, Mn and attended school there. He then entered the US Army. After the Army, he made his career at US Steel Minntac.

Dick married Dina (Hutar) on January 19, 1968. They were one week shy of their 50th wedding anniversary when she passed away in 2018. Together they built a home filled with love and laughter and raised three children; Sandy, Cory and Richy.

In his free time, Dick enjoyed golfing, playing cards and riding his side-by-side. He was known for his kindness, his beautiful head of hair, and his open door policy. The coffee pot was always on. Visits with Dick were filled with warmth, laughter and heartfelt conversations.

The thing that brought him the most joy was spending time with his grandchildren. He took pride in being a loving grandpa to Monica (Blake), Cody, Kyle (Emily), Brendan, Blayne and Madison and great grandpa to Skyler, Callie, Myla, Peyton, Jameson, Lyla and Eden.

Dick was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. His faith carried him through his life. He knew Jesus would be waiting for him in paradise.

He is survived by his children; Sandy (Barney) Lakner, Cory (Clifford) Noble and Rich (Lisa) Hill; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sister Wendy (Gene) Reed; numerous sisters and brothers in law, nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife Dina, mother Lucille Waisanen, father Kenneth Hill, brothers Ken, John, Norman Hill and Jim Waisanen and stepfather Edwin Waisanen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Ely with visitation one hour prior to the service.
