S. James (Jim) Orcutt, age 95, passed away on June 16, 2026 at Essentia Health in Duluth.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Jennie Johnson and Stanley Orcutt, sister Lois and son Josh Orcutt.
He is survived by daughter Katherine Hill (Louis Hill), son Jim of Ely, sister Judy Hoy, half-brother Bill Devin (Joleen) and half-sister Mary Shok, two grandsons Michael Bloom (Kelly) and Josh Bloom (Rachel).
Jim enlisted in the Air Force right after high school and was a four-year vet serving in the Korean War. After serving, he graduated from the University of Minnesota and started working for Standard Register Co. where he retired after 28 years.
Being the social person that he was and his love for working with people, he continued to work as a maître d at Quail Creek Country Club in Naples, Florida and took phone sales orders at Piragis Northwoods Co. in Ely.
Jim had a lot of hobbies, hunting and fishing all his life. At the age of 50, he quit smoking and took up running where he met many people and created lasting friendships. He would run every day and ran many races including half and full marathons. He was also part of the original group that started the Trezona Trail Fun Run.
He also had a love for gardening, planting flowers and veggies. We always had to have a salad when he cooked even with his famous sourdough pancakes. He was an avid bird watcher and feeding them (often the bears too).
He was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Rest in peace.
