Scott Bigelow, age 74, of Ely, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on July 27, 2025.
Born in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, to Lester and Rose Bigelow, Scott graduated from Woodstock High School, where he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame for his achievements on the state-winning swim team. He earned his degree from Western Illinois University and went on to own and operate Outdoor Recreation in Woodstock.
He later moved to Ely, where he served as Logistics Director for the Minnesota Outward Bound School for 28 years. He also owned Mr. Big’s Bike Shop, where he was known for his passion for fixing and restoring bikes. After his retirement, Scott enjoyed working at Mike Motors and the Ely Shopper.
Scott will be remembered as a kind, thoughtful man who valued friendship, service, and community.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; daughter, Cara; brother, Jamie Bigelow (LeAnne); sister, Leslie Peart (Jeff); nephews Daniel Bigelow (Jordan), Jason Bigelow (Jamie Lyn), Jordan Peart (Tori), and Brandon Peart (Teghan); and several grand-nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many close life-long friends, including his Outward Bound colleagues and poker pals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Rose.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Samz from 1-4 p.m.
