Susan Frederick

Susan A. Frederick, 77, of Ely, formerly of San Diego, California, and Mililani, Hawaii, passed peacefully on Tuesday February 27, 2024, with her son Rob and her sister Jeanie by her side.

The eldest of four children, she was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on October 6, 1946, to Bob & Shirley Klaesges, of Ely, formerly of Torrance, California, and proprietors of Timber Trail Resort & Campground on Farm Lake from 1967 to 1988.

“Susie” as she was called by friends was a hardworking and loving mother who raised two children on her own. She had a forever young personality and would surprise you with her quick wit making everyone around her laugh and smile. She enjoyed semi-professional bowling, was an avid reader of mystery, romantic, and suspense novels, enjoyed light gardening, and even the grueling task of shoveling snow.

She was preceded in death by her brother Stephen Robert Klaesges July 24, 1948, mother Shirley Klaesges, March 7, 1996, and father Robert Klaesges November 3, 2012.

Susie is survived by her son Robert Talkington of Ely; daughter Shannon Talkington of San Diego; brother David Klaesges of Ely; sister Jeanie Zaverl of Ely; sister Cathy Housey (Randy) of Sartell; grandchildren Cody Brown, and Dylan Brown; great-grandson James Brown; nieces and nephews Robert Zaverl; Toni Zaverl; Tony Housey; and Kimberlee Housey. Great-nieces Alison Zaverl; Shayla Zaverl; and Cailin Bowdich.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.
